I believe that Google is now in a position to take over the world. :) I have always used Google as my main search engine in the past, but had know clue how much innovation Google has brought into the cyber world since it started. Google created a network of applications that all intertwine and work together to help me create limitless applications for personal use and professional use. Although, I knew about some of Google’s tools like Google Maps, Google Earth, and Gmail. I did not know anything about wiki’s, blogs, and the presentation tools.
My horizon has expended and I can now see how I can use some of these Google’s tools efficiently and effectively in my classroom. I feel that the Google presentation tools can dramatically help my students create and share their presentations with the rest of the class and me. Since all the information is saved on Goolge’s database and not on their computer the likelihood that the students will loose information by a computer crash or lost jump drives non existent. I can see by using wiki’s and blogs in my classroom are very beneficial. I want to start using these in my classroom but the Tea School District does not allow students to email. Every email site has been blocked. I can’t even get into my USD email account. I want to use great deal of Google applications in my teaching, but it is hard to do without my students having access to an email site.

I was surprised to hear that you can not access any email, not even your USD accounts. That does make it very hard to communicate, we use email with staff often, I have not tried with students yet but am looking to use blogs and wikis with staff and parents I am not sure what kind of road blocks I will run into.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm sorry to hear about the e-mail thing at your school. I definitely agree with you when you say that these will be useful tools to use in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteChris, you did an excellent job of creating a blog -- looks great!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had an answer for you on student accounts. I hope you are able to find a solution soon.
